To stage their spring collection Humberto Leon and Carol Lim thought of something different. They produced a one-act play, shown backwards, at the Metropolitan Opera. Despite all the craziness that happened it was fashion show and it had a theme: the summer of 1991. There were colours and prints, two-tone-trousers and vests. Leon and Lim wanted us to have a look back and remind us of the joy and freedom from former days. With a wink, Lim sounds off: “Have fun, and don’t take yourselves too seriously.”
Although I'm open to new things and I love surprises, when it comes to Fashion Week I'm old fashioned. I want the audience to sit and wait and be excited. The show starts, you hold your breath and the first model comes around the corner. The models walk down the runway, you look at the clothes and be happy. I don't want them to talk or do weird things. After all, it is a fashion show and not a theater play. Despite the presentation the looks in this combination were a bit too outrageous for me. Looking at each piece of clothing separately makes the collection more wearable to me. Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love a jumper with a crazy pattern or highlight trousers - and thank God everyone has his or her own taste.
Isn't fashion just the greatest thing?!
